The Four Minute Mile
The true story of how John Landy broke the world record and ran a four minute mile.
It was the sporting equivalent of conquering Everest: running a mile in under four minutes. A feat long thought impossible, in 1954 two supremely gifted athletes emerged as frontrunners to break the milestone: England’s Roger Bannister and Australia’s John Landy.
Though Bannister will be remembered as the first man to break the mile, this thrilling mini-series (brilliantly scripted by David Williamson - The Club, Don’s Party) continues the action to the 1954 Empire Games when Landy and Bannister have their first head-to-head clash in the so-called ‘race of the century’ - for Landy, winning the race in a record time would establish him as the greatest runner of his generation.
The Four Minute Mile is not only a classic saga of human endurance set around one of the greatest moments in sporting history, but a testament to one of Australia’s greatest sporting champions.
