Caligula: The Pre-Release Cut

2h 33m History, Epic, Drama 2008

A restoration of an early cut of Caligula, with Guccione’s scenes edited out and recut with new and unseen footage.

Originally directed by provocateur Tinto Brass and produced (or “corrupted”) by Penthouse’s Bob Guccione, the Pre-Release Cut, put together by Nathaniel Thompson in 2008, was re-edited with Guccione’s additional explicit scenes replaced by the original softcore scenes shot by Tinto Brass.

After the death of the paranoid emperor Tiberius, Caligula, his heir, seizes power and plunges the empire into a bloody spiral of madness and depravity.

Discover the perversion behind Imperial Rome and the epic story of its maddest Emperor. All the details of Caligula’s (Malcolm McDowell) cruel and bizarre reign are revealed right here: his unholy sexual passion for his sister, his marriage to Rome’s most infamous prostitute, his fiendishly inventive means of disposing those who would oppose him, and more!
